Today's dusty tome is The Werewolf of Paris by Guy Endore

Originally published in 1933, this powerful historical horror novel in which the predations of the title werewolf are the least of all evils as the horrors of the Paris Commune 0f 1871 play out around him. Endore masterfully balances the grisly with a sensitivity and compassion for the tormented hero that is rare in contemporary horror.

Trivia tidbits: Guy Endore contributed to the screenplays of the classic horror films Mad Love (1935), Mark of the Vampire (1935) and The Devil Doll (1936).

The Werewolf of Paris was made into the movie Curse of the Werewolf (1961) by Hammer Films starring Oliver Reed as the cursed protagonist.
