Mayhem by Sarah Pinborough
Pinborough raises the bar on historical thrillers with this engaging tale, spinning off the long forgotten Thames Torso murders, horrific crimes overshadowed by the predations of Jack the Ripper, to create a chillingly realistic tale of mystery and supernatural menace. Reads like a collaboration between Wilkie Collins and John Connolly. Excellent writing, characters that literally breathe, and a powerful sense of time and place make this novel a must read.
